BARBAROSSA

Cologne

In the heart of Cologne
at Barbarossaplatz

Right at Barbarossaplatz in Cologne, the former KPMG headquarters is being transformed into a new location for the Meininger hotel chain, featuring approximately 1,180 beds. The striking square location in the city center is one of the city’s most visible addresses and offers direct access to major transportation routes. The redevelopment oft the property creates a sustainable use for the property and strengthens the location’s position in the long term.

In the centre of the city

The location is firmly embedded in Cologne’s urban fabric and connects different parts of the city. The immediate surroundings are characterized by restaurants, retail shops, and consistently high foot traffic. Its proximity to established shopping and business streets ensures the location’s long-term relevance.

Reimagining What’s Already There

The project is being developed on behalf of a Canadian pension fund and is rooted in the thoughtful evolution of the existing office building. The current building at Barbarossaplatz will be preserved and transformed into a hotel use that is far better suited tot he location in the long term. This creates a project that builds on the existing quality of the property and translates it into a contemporary use.

New energy

With its future use as a hotel, the site will take on new significance in the daily life of the city. The transformation will bring additional benefits and new dynamism to one of Colognes most famous locations.
