Building permits submitted for THE WID in Cologne-Ehrenfeld

With the filing of building permits, one of Cologne's most exciting projects is taking shape

THE WID, located at Widdersdorfer Strasse 158 and 188a in Cologne-Ehrenfeld, will be a new urban location for work, accommodation, fitness and gastronomy. The plots were acquired in 2020 and 2022 and are currently undergoing a project-related development plan process. In total, the Düsseldorf-based project developer Alfons & alfreda around 95,000 m² GFA in Cologne-Ehrenfeld.

At the heart of the project are ten independent buildings that are actually divided, individually designed and each marketed separately with its own address. This structure enables a wide range of possible uses and offers flexibility for all categories of prospective tenants.

The plans with the individually designed facades are the result of a two-stage architectural competition. A total of four planning offices were selected, coordinated by the general planner Phase 5 GmbH from Düsseldorf. Despite their individual design, the buildings form a harmonious unit - implemented by a connecting plinth made of clinker bricks and arched elements.

THE WID primarily offers modern office space that meets the highest sustainability standards. The offer is complemented by a hotel building with 200 rooms, a fitness studio, a wide range of restaurants and other additional first floor uses.

The result is a vibrant quarter with an urban mix and a high quality of stay - a place that combines working, experiencing and meeting in a contemporary way.
